we are isolated by our stories and not liberated by them, narrative therapists have reached the conclusion that their role is to unlock this destructive cycle via counter-stories. Rather than dominating the analysand, however, the therapist works together with the patient to co-author a new story that can be inhabited. What the therapeutic community is doing explicitly is taking place implicitly on a day-to-day basis in the lives of every individual within the towns and cities of Western Europe.
